Fun isn’t something one considers when bringing balance to the universe but Reddit users are planning to have their fair share of it come July 9.
As those who have seen Avengers: Infinity War are aware the villain of the movie, Thanos, ended the film on a high note.
Since then, Thanos and his utilitarian philosophy has been the subject of many fan debates, leading a group of fans who supported him and his warped but interesting worldview to flock to Reddit and create a subreddit aptly named, r/ThanosDidNothingWrong.

The subreddit has since become a celebration of all things Thanos, from information on the character, the Infinity Stones, and relevant memes.
Earlier this month, Polygon noticed that there was talk of ‘banning half the users of the subreddit’ in an attempt to emulate Thanos and his universal (?) genocide at the end of Infinity War.
The plan was to have a bot that would randomly ban half of the users in the subreddit because the Internet is a strange and wonderful place. The ban was initially supposed to take place on July 4 but has since been postponed to July 9.
Since the Polygon article, the subreddit has been flooded with new users, eager to try their luck with the Thanos-inspired lucky draw, if one can call it that. The current subscriber count as of this writing is at 337k, meaning at least 168,500 users would be spontaneously banned.
When successfully enacted, it would end up being the largest mass ban in Reddit history.
As for what happens next, there is already talk that those who get banned should flock to the newly created subreddit, r/intothesoulstone, a 4000 subscriber-strong subreddit referencing a popular fan theory that those who crumbled away after Thanos’ snap at the end of the film are trapped within the orange Soul Stone.
Those who are in on the joke seem willing to accept whichever role that is randomly handed to them.
From the perspective for those on the outside who aren’t involved in this event, it’s just nice to see a large group of people gather online for a reason that’s not malicious, hateful, and generally good-natured.
So who will survive and who will be culled by our Lord Thanos?
We’ll find out tomorrow.
