A hero in a time of need.
Netizens are applauding a man from Ipoh for his heroic act of kindness for adopting a dog that was abandoned during the Covid-19 lockdown.
Lionel Keith Vytialingam was out getting groceries when he spotted a dog that was wandering aimlessly on the road near Jalan Canning Estate in Canning Garden, Ipoh. Upon closer inspection, Vytialingam noticed a note attached to the dog’s collar.
Vytialingam hoped the note would contain the dog’s true owner’s contact details, but alas, it was a different sort of note.
Vytialingam took the dog, named Siggy by its previous owner, back to his home where he fed and showered her.
This situation brings up a bigger question about the responsibilities of owning a pet.
In his post, Vytialingam pleaded to the public to not get a pet unless they are ready for the commitment of being a pet owner, and that their decisions are not governed by mood swings or other forms of inconsistencies.
“If you have committed to your best ability (you’re certainly a kind soul), but for some reason you have reached a point where you can’t anymore, PLEASE do not do not DO NOT abandon/leave/disown/un-own/’release’/’FREE’ ur pets onto the streets. Reach out and ask for help, and speak up if you’re desperate, use the internet if u can, call a friend maybe,” he said in his post.
In a later update, Vytialingam stated that the dog will be adopted by his brother after the MCO is lifted.
This might prove to be a happy ending after all.
