Do you already know? The colour of next year is Viva Magenta!
Viva Magenta 18-1750 has been named Colour of the Year 2023 by the American colour company Pantone. Described by the brand as an “unconventional red for an unconventional era,” it’s a vibrant pink with hints of purple that belong to the red family.
Pantone’s trend-forecasting research arm, the Pantone Colour Institute, selects colours every year. Pantone said this year’s colour choices reflect the “rebellious” spirit of the times and a renewed interest in creative experimentation in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. There is also a psychological, and emotional component. Pantone says magenta balances boldness and fun, confidence and humanity. It likens this to how the digital space has accelerated globalization, enabling people to connect with others and deepen their empathy.
“Three years deep amid a pandemic, facing war, an unstable economy, social unrest, disrupted supply chains, and increasing climate change, we need a cure,” Pantone added. “And we still need to find the motivation to keep going. Here, Viva Magenta clothes us in strength and grace and brings us into the world with the energy we aspire to.”
