You can see his sketches on serviettes to coffee tables; Dududedoodle is a traveling artist with a common passion we all share, food and coffee! We had a chat with DuDu, a Malaysian artist that leaves his incredibly intricate sketches at every restaurant he goes to. Here’s what went down!
Hi DuDu! Do tell us more about yourself!
A traveling artist that loves to eat and seeking inspiration from the cafe vibes. Passion in art since I was 9 with. The world is like a big drawing board for me. I doodle on paper, serviette, coffee cups, leaf, shoes, table, canvas and even on a 40ft wall.
What exactly is the meaning behind your pseudonym?
Why DuDu? DuDu sounds similar to Doodle. From the name of Du Du The Doodler to dududedoodle that creates a fun rhyme for people easy to remember. But some can’t even pronouns it correct by calling me “Du Dude De Doodle” or DoooooDooooDooooodle!
Share with us your story of an aspiring artist.
It all happened when I was 9. I picked up a some chalks and started to scribble on the wall. As usual, I get whacked up by my parents (hahaha). But, I am glad that my parents saw my potential and encouraged me to join art class.
Why did you start leaving drawings at cafes?
Because I’m lazy to keep it (laugh). I will reward to the service crew for their hard work and even to put a smile on the people around me!
Is there any inspiration for you to doodle?
To cheer people up and the warm smiles on their faces are priceless! 🙂

Tell us how is a day in your life like?
Like what Batman does! A typical 9-6PM job and after that, I’ll drop by a cafe for a nice cup of coffee and start my doodle of the day.
Any tips on how to take the perfect Instagram shot?
Clean and white background is always the best. Continue to take numerous shot with minimal adjustments.
Who inspires you?
Besides coffee, Hayao Miyazaki and Kim Jung Gi has deeply inspired me. I adore Mr. Hayao Miyazaki’s persistence in hand-drawn animations; while I am fascinated by Mr. Kim Jung Gi’s ability to draw solely equipped with an ink brush and his wild imagination. I love that their passion for traditional hand-drawn arts that resonates through their artful strokes.
What is the ideal weekend for you?
Waking up at different countries to explore more local foods and cultures.
Tell us what makes you smile the most? 🙂
When my best friend wipe the coffee stains with my well-drawn serviette (lol!) Definitely when the restaurant/cafe’s service crew received my artwork with an epic expression on their face 😀
Where do you see yourself in 2 years’ time?
Continue my traveling and doodle journey. So far I have explored Singapore, Thailand, and Taiwan. Looking forward to checkout Australia, Japan and Europe soon!
