Uncle Roger opens his first restaurant in M’sia located at Pavilion.
For years, Nigel Ng, often known as Uncle Roger on the internet, has criticized the skills of fried rice cookers. The tables have finally turned. Fuiyoh! is the Malaysian-born comedian’s fried rice eatery. Uncle Roger staged its grand opening today (September 11), and folks were excited to try his signature dish.
Photos and videos from the official launch on Wednesday afternoon revealed a long queue on the 7th floor of Pavilion mall, near Bukit Bintang in Kuala Lumpur. Other social media videos showed large crowds outside the restaurant, with at least one person apparently queuing for up to three hours simply to eat there. The 33-year-old internet star who popularized his signature “Fuiyoh!” catchphrase had been teasing the restaurant’s arrival since July 1.
In media interviews, Nigel as Uncle Roger also stated that his fried rice is “the best fried rice in KL” and is “full of wok hei…and also MSG,” alluding to the food additive monosodium glutamate. In fact, the tagline “The best fried rice in town” is inscribed on a sign affixed to the restaurant’s ceiling, which is painted brilliant orange.
According to online menu photographs, pricing appears to start at RM16 for the basic Uncle Roger’s Egg Fry Rice. Uncle Roger’s Special Fry Rice, his speciality dish and top recommendation, costs RM18 and includes sambal sauce. Other options include Kimchi Fried Rice, Tomato Fried Rice, and Uncle Roger’s Egg Fry Noodle, all for the same price. Customers are encouraged to “Make your fry rice Fuiyoh!” by adding toppings such as Grilled Unagi (RM29), Chicken Satay (RM12), or two Crispy Sunny Side Up eggs (RM6).
