Keretapi Sarong 2024 participates in a bright display of Malaysia’s cultural tapestry.
Over 12,000 people of various nationalities and ages reflected the “face of Malaysia” last Saturday (14 September) by donning traditional dress at the Keretapi Sarong 2024 (KS 2024) event, mesmerizing observers, particularly foreign tourists.
The ninth edition of the unity-focused event was held at Lanai, Malaysia Tourism Centre (MaTiC) in Jalan Ampang, and included local influencers and celebrities such as Khairul Aming, Pinn Yang, Sabri Yunus, and Angelina Tan, according to national news agency Bernama.
Attendees were dressed stylishly in traditional clothing such as sarongs, baju kurung, classic Malay kebaya, saris, and ethnic attire from Sabah and Sarawak, highlighting Malaysia’s rich cultural variety.
The celebration was enlivened with acts such as lion dances, kompang drum processions, and the Rukun Negara recital. A highlight of the evening was the flash mob performed to folk music, which has been a crowd favorite since the program’s beginning in 2017.
This year’s KS2024 programming, themed “Bangga Malaysia,” began concurrently at nine RapidKL and Express Rail Link (ERL) train stations before concluding at Lanai, MaTiC.
Aside from the main event in the Klang Valley, similar events were hosted in Johor Bahru, Kota Baru, Ipoh, Bukit Mertajam, and Alor Setar, as well as abroad in Paris, France and Berlin, Germany.
