In the wake of the unsettling gunfire incident that shook KL International Airport (KLIA) on Sunday, April 14, the suspect involved has been remanded for a duration of seven days.
The decision was made by a Magistrate’s Court in Kota Baru, following an application by the police for remand, aiming to facilitate a more thorough investigation into the case. This development sheds light on a distressing event that unfolded in one of the country’s busiest transportation hubs.
The suspect, who managed to evade authorities for over 24 hours, was apprehended by Kelantan police on Monday, April 15, at 3:00 PM. He was brought to the Kota Baru Court Complex under heavy police guard, attired in purple lockup clothes, symbolizing the gravity of the situation.
The ordeal commenced at KLIA’s Terminal 1, causing pandemonium and panic among travelers and airport staff alike. The chaos ensued when gunshots reverberated through the arrival hall in the wee hours of Sunday morning. Farah Md Isa, known as Farah Cie, a travel agency owner, found herself in the line of fire while awaiting the return of clients who had embarked on an umrah pilgrimage. Amid the chaos, a firecracker was hurled in her direction, inadvertently injuring two bystanders nearby.
The situation escalated when two shots were fired at Farah Cie, with one bullet narrowly missing her and the other striking her bodyguard, who valiantly shielded her from harm. The assailant, identified as Hafizul, Farah Cie’s estranged husband and business partner, fled the scene promptly, making his way to his vehicle parked at Block C of the airport’s car park.
Subsequent investigation revealed that Farah Cie and Hafizul were amidst divorce proceedings, shedding light on the possible motives behind the targeted attack. The aftermath of the incident was captured on video, offering a chilling glimpse into the sheer terror experienced by those present.
As authorities delve deeper into this alarming occurrence, questions surrounding airport security and the prevalence of domestic disputes turned violent arise. This unfortunate incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for heightened security measures and effective conflict resolution strategies in public spaces.
