Last week, this instagram page @malaysianpaygap went viral by sharing Malaysians’ pay wage anonymously.

The page is filled with users’ submissions on their salaries, with the intention of sharing how much each specific experience of qualifications “commonly” earn.

With the current username titled “Goodbye Wage Taboo”, they also aim to advocate for better salaries for Malaysians. This may not be surprising for some of us. We learned through some of the submissions that many are paid based on their race, some even barely get the minimum wages because of “lack of experience.”
It’s indeed a big goal to achieve with just an Instagram page but this platform sort of breaks the untold taboo of Malaysians openly talking about their wage. Users can submit their information through a template provided by them, and it’ll be shared anonymously.
As the community keeps growing the past week, they’ve launched their own discord channel. They shared in their recent Instagram posting that they’ve had over 2000 members discussing field-specific issues, job postings, and success stories on the platform.

It might seem trivial at first but perhaps speaking up IS the first step to help fix this “unjust” system?
