Visit Malaysia 2026 is not just a tourism campaign, but an invitation to experience the country’s diversity, warmth, culinary richness and vibrant arts, said Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh at the launch of Kuala Lumpur’s “I Lite U” campaign.
The Malaysian icon and United Nations Goodwill Ambassador described it as an honour to be part of the ceremony as the nation prepares to welcome the world.
Yeoh said light symbolises two things, guidance for the path ahead and a beacon that signals presence, telling others, “here we are.”
Drawing from her film background, she likened the moment to standing on a movie set, where lights reveal depth, colour and emotion before a story unfolds.
“Now, let us see the city as our set and the world as our audience,” she said during her speech in Kuala Lumpur.
The “I Lite U” campaign, short for Innovative Lighting Infrastructure Towards Eco-elegance Urbanisation, features more than 70 energy-efficient LED installations themed around chandeliers, moonlight and fairytale concepts.
The project stretches nearly one kilometre around Bukit Bintang, transforming the area into a brighter and more festive destination while aligning with Kuala Lumpur’s low-carbon city agenda.
Beyond infrastructure and aesthetics, Yeoh urged Malaysians to embody the true spirit of local hospitality as Visit Malaysia 2026 approaches.
“Our arms, hearts and shining country are open to welcoming you,” she said, calling on Malaysians to play an active role in shaping visitors’ experiences.
She added that the light switched on in the city should also shine brightly in the hearts of those who see it, leaving a lasting impression long after the visit ends.
The launch was attended by several Cabinet ministers, including Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming, Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh.
