With the voice to set you in the mood to unwind after a long day at work, Meliha Faisal has made her name out of herself within and beyond Malaysia’s entertainment circuit for quite some time now. The Monday Blues singer-songwriter shared a little more about herself with us at Sevenpie.
1. Hi Meliha! Share to our readers about yourself.
Hello! I’m a Malaysian singer-songwriter, DJ and producer.
2. Share with us what inspire you to venture into music?
I was lucky enough to know at a very young age that music was what I wanted to do. When I was 15, my fingers were itching to pick up the guitar. I thought it was amazing how a piece of instrument could create such beautiful sounds. I did just that, taught myself and never looked back.
3. Describe to us your music style.
I’ve got two sides to me going at the moment. My acoustic sound is very indie-folk, songs that tell a tale sort of thing. I like to put a lot of soul & emotion in everything I do, especially my acoustic stuff. Then I’ve got my electronic stuff, fairly new, fresh deep house sounds. I just don’t think anyone should ever limit themselves when it comes to music.
4. Where you get your music inspiration from?
Anything & everything! Literally.
5. Share with us on the experience on collaborating with Rory Gallagher.
That experience was really great as I still had a lot to learn when we were collaborating, and I think I learned a lot in terms of how to write a good dance track. Not as easy as you think! It’s opened so many doors and new opportunities for me as well.
6. Which musician you would love to collaborate the most?
I would love to sit down and do something with FKJ. I think that guy is a proper artist in its entirety.
7. Do you have any musicians that you look up to in life?
I’ve got loads. People around me especially cause I like to surround myself with musicians.
8. What would you usually do to prepare your live performances?
I would prepare my set list, time my songs and practice till it’s perfect. Also drink as much warm honey lemons as I can!
9. Share with us 3 must-have items in helping you to create new songs.
My guitar, a nice view (as it just puts you in the right mind set) and patience.
10. What are the other activities/hobbies you would enjoy doing in life?
I really like heading to the gym & trying to be as healthy as I possibly can. Other than that, my life really only revolves around music.
11. Any inspiring advice for the musicians out there?
Be patient about growing as a musician, be patient about releasing a song. Take your time & don’t ever rush it. Everything that is great takes time to build.
12. Any life motto?
Um, I kinda like that motto where it says “How you do one thing, is how you do everything”.
