A mysterious viral outbreak that started in Wuhan, provisionally called 2019-nCoV has been spreading to 13 countries, including the US, France, Australia, Canada, Malaysia and Thailand.
But no one really knows its cure or how easily it is transmitted. While the situation carries much uncertainty, it’s important to make sure everyone takes the right precautions and minimises the effects of this deadly disease.
Here are the ways to keep yourself protected!
1. “Avoid close contact with anyone showing symptoms of respiratory illness, such as coughing and sneezing,” the World Health Organization says.
Eric Toner, a senior scientist at Johns Hopkins University, told Business Insider: “What we don’t know is to what extent this disease can be transmitted by people who are only mildly ill, that’s one of the things that we’re trying to figure out right now.”
In social situation that is unavoidable, make sure to avoid close contact with others or human to human transmission, especially with travellers. Be sure to look out for all this signs and symptoms as well, stay alert people!
2. Stock up and put on face masks
Wearing a mask is always better than nothing. It helps with catching bacteria and germs before reaching to your mouth, putting you in harm’s way of contracting the Coronavirus. According to WHO experts, Seto, putting mask the correct way is a good practise to control the infection from spreading.
3. Wash your hands, for 20 seconds!
Since there aren’t any cure or vaccines available yet, health authorities have mentioned this to be the most important step, which is to wash hands with soaps and antiseptics regularly. We have also been warned to avoid touching our face, lest being exposed to harmful particles.
4. Cover your cough and sneeze the right way
Using palms to cover our sneeze and cough isn’t hygienic at all, germs could be passed on and spread around as we touch surrounding objects. This is what health officials recommend: you could always use tissue to cover your nose or mouth area, and dispose the tissue immediately, followed by disinfecting your hands. Or, you could also use your flexed elbow to cover when you are sneezing or coughing. By having proper cough and sneezing etiquette, it breaks the chain of transmission of the disease.
5. Drink H2O and stay hydrated!
Make sure you are always hydrated, and that your throats are not dry at any time! Staying hydrated can be really helpful, even if you already find yourself engaged with the unfortunate victim of the Wuhan virus, drinking water is a great way of getting rid of it as soon as possible. So, drink plenty of water and flush out those toxins!
