I am sure most of us are familiar with the Grinch, an iconic character in Dr. Seuss’ children’s book How the Grinch Stole Christmas. It truly started becoming a classic holiday staple when a few adaptations came about. Some may recall the tale from their childhood with the animated TV special, while others watched the live action which features Jim Carrey in the lead role. A new version of the Grinch is set to make a comeback in 2018 for the new generation of viewers to enjoy.
Illumination Entertainment, the studio behind Despicable Me 2 and 3, Minions, Sing and The Secret Life of Pets has been working on the 3D animated production simply known as Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch for a very long time now. Last Wednesday was the release of the upcoming film’s first teaser poster. The poster features a very young puzzled and innocent looking Grinch (way before he became vile and ruin Christmas) draped in a red scarf. This also means that the audiences might be in for a backstory on how the Grinch became bitter.
Earlier this year, the studio gave us a first look on their CG take of the adult Grinch, who has a more sinister look and eyes that are narrowed with a sly smirk on his face. Even though the Grinch eventually redeems himself in the end, but I definitely can’t wait to see what the immortal Christmas-obstructive hermit have up in his sleeve as a villain.
Illumination Entertainment plans to wait until the next holiday for its release and the date is currently set for November 9, which means the film will be closer to Thanksgiving rather than the bigger holiday itself. Though this isn’t an ideal release date, but it is surely a wise choice from the studio to keep the film from being in contingent with a few big movies coming up in December. Also, the Grinch will be voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch with Peter Candeland and Yarrow Cheney as the directors.
