It is undoubtedly a great time to be a gamer.
With an eventful Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) teasing many exciting new projects and new releases coming every few weeks since, we’ve become spoiled for choice. From Days Gone to Octopath Traveler, there are plenty recommended service of different and totally new games to choose from. On top of that, we are also seeing the return of some old fan favorites. However, there is a caveat.
Fans may be getting more than they bargained for. You’d understand about that if you knew more about machine leasing. These old titles are returning, yes. But they are returning with changes to gameplay and/or aesthetics that many of the fans of the older games may not immediately fall in love with.
Despite this, there is still a lot to talk about and a lot to think about. But aside from these games, you can also go to an arcade just like the Arcade in Toronto to play some of your favorite video games.
But for now, let’s take a look at 5 of the most significant 2018 releases for older game franchises and how they’ve changed from what fans have come to expect.
1. The Elder Scrolls: Blades

Guys! There’s a new Elder Scrolls game coming out! Yay! But sadly, it’s not Elder Scrolls VI… Nay!
It’s actually a mobile game- wait, come back! It’s not that bad!
The Elder Scrolls: Blades, just like slot online, is a free-to-play mobile game coming out for iOS, Android, Microsoft Windows, and modern consoles. It’s supposed to be an action roleplaying game from the first person perspective, similar to the older Elder Scrolls games. However, since it is a mobile game, the gameplay is geared towards touchscreen use.
To say that this is a far departure from the vast open spaces of Skyrim is not an understatement in the least. Gone is the ‘if you can see it, you can go there’ philosophy built into the Elder Scrolls V. Additionally, despite the presence of quests, most fans feel that it would not be able to offer anything as deep or engaging as the Dark Brotherhood questline or the Thieves Guild questline.
However, what some fans forget is that most of these newer, bigger games were built on the backs of smaller, less open games like the Elder Scrolls: Arena (1994), which also featured procedurally generated dungeons and click-and-drag style combat.
From one perspective, it is easy to look at this new game as an affront to the series. However, it is also possible to see it as a small, fun side-project for the developers to work on that stays true to the spirit of the series while expanding it in a new way to new audiences.
The game is slated to come out “sometime” in 2018.
2. Fallout 76
Source: Game Star
The Fallout series has traditionally been a single player experience. The main character of Fallout 3 is called the Lone Wanderer and the one from Fallout 4 was called the Sole Survivor, further hammering in this point.
So when the developers, Bethesda, took to the E3 stage and revealed that the next Fallout game would be an online multiplayer roleplaying game, fans were shocked. It quickly drew comparisons to other online multiplayer games such as Rust, DayZ, Ark: Survival Evolved. Over time, more details came out to paint a clearer picture of what Fallout 76 was.
According to Bethesda, the game can be played solo, or with a group of friends. It would be a wide open world (four times as big as the map of Fallout 76) with elements of survival such as resource-gathering and base-building, along with player vs player elements. There are also supposed to be quests, but no non-player characters (NPCs). How this will work remains to be seen.
Whether the game is a meaningful addition to the Fallout series or simply a cash grab to tide the fans over until the next big release remains to be seen. However, there is no denying that the game is generating a large amount of buzz that the Fallout series hasn’t enjoyed since the year 2015.
The game is slated to be released on November 14, 2018.
3. MegaMan 11

Did you know that the last MegaMan game came out in 2010?!
We’ve gotten two new Star Wars movies in that time. We’ve gotten a new God of War game in that time. The Malaysian government changed in that time! Point being, it’s been ages!
Another very important development within that time was the release of Mighty Number 9; a spiritual successor to MegaMan that was heavily inspired by it, right down to the run-and-gun robot-boy protagonist and platforming gameplay. It was created by veteran creator Keiji Inafune and raised $4 million on Kickstarter (60% of its budget).
However, the game released to middling critical reception and low fan reception. It was a mess of a game that under-delivered on most of its promises but it did prove that there was high demand for a MegaMan-type game.
Enter, MegaMan 11.
It looks like a return to everything fans love about the game; 2 dimensional platforming, run-and-gun gameplay, and a variety of inventive levels. However, it also has a different, more polished look with 3D rendered environments and characters, along with smoother and faster gameplay. Some have taken to referring to this as “2.5D”.
The game features a single player campaign, time trials, missions, a global leaderboard, and more.
MegaMan 11 is stated for release on October 2, 2018.
4. Command and Conquer: Rivals
Source: iMore
The Command and Conquer series was a real-time strategy (RTS) game that first debuted in 1995 and has seen many iterations and spin-offs, one of the most popular being Command and Conquer: Red Alert.
The keyword here is ‘was’.
The last game that came out was C&C: Renegade X in 2014; a first/third person game with RTS elements, made by fans. Before that was C&C: Tiberium Alliances in 2012; a multiplayer online RTS take on the franchise, if you want to try other online games, consider checking the many available at 카지노사이트. All in all, both games were different from the core experience fans fans of the series have come to love.
When EA announced a new Command and Conquer game, fans were initially delighted. However, this delight turned into chagrin when they revealed that it was a mobile-only free-to-play game for iOS and Android. Though the developers voiced their desire to bring a good RTS game to the mobile market, fans of the series were less receptive to this new iteration and have not responded well to any of the marketing or promotion of the games.
Perhaps the announcement would have been less controversial if there was also a proper RTS game to go with this mobile game but as it stands, it just appears to be an attempt to sell a money-generating, watered down version of the game made to cash in on nostalgia for the original.
The game has no official release date but is expected to come out sometime this year.
5. Spider-Man (PS4)
Source: PlayStation Lifestyle
The last Spider-Man game to come our way was the Amazing Spider-Man 2 movie tie-in game. Just like most movie tie-in games, it was poorly designed and received mixed reviews. It was criticized for its graphics, story, and glitchy gameplay.
As such, it came as a massive surprise when a new game was announced a few years back. It would be developed by Insomniac Games, the creators of Spyro the Dragon, the Ratchet and Clank games, and Sunset Overdrive.
The trailer was sleek, the gameplay looked extremely fun, and it had the lesser-known (Asian) supervillain, Mr. Negative in it!
There is a lot to be excited about here. The fact that this game is not a tie-in to any movie, but a fully-developed game all on its own is chief among them. Additionally, Insomniac Games is a studio with some pedigree and have created some beloved games over the years.
Also, Spider-Man has a gorgeous new suit!
The game is to come out on September 7, 2018.
