Our squash queen just announced that she will be stepping down from her thrown in June after 20 years.
She tweeted, “I’m truly happy and excited to be sharing with everyone that I’m retiring in June. I’d like to thank everyone for supporting me and all your love in the last 20 years and it’s time for new and exciting opportunities to come.”

To commemorate Nicol’s retirement after 20 years of representing Malaysia, let’s take a look back on a few, out of the many achievements that was achieved by Datuk Nicol Ann David.
1. She won the Women’s World Junior Squash Championship
One of the proudest moments of Malaysian history when Nicol won the Women’s World Junior Squash Championship back in 1999. Held in Belgium where she became the youngest female World Junior Champion. All at the age of 15! (yes, our jaws dropped too)
2. First Malaysian and Asian squash player to be ranked World # 1
In 2006, Nicol made Malaysia a country to be knwon by the world when she ranked World number one in squash!
And then in 2008 She shocked the world when she won every single match in a complete calendar year!
3. Eight consecutive World Open Championship champion
Datuk Nicol made it on top during 2008 right up to 2014 during the World Open Championship
4. Nine-time Asian Squash champion
She also won nine record breaking times at the Asian Squash from 1998 and 2015.
5. Youngest person to be conferred Datukship
The Darjah Setia Pangkuan Negeri Award, where she was honoured to carry the title “Datuk” and became the youngest person to do so in Penang.
6. One of the greatest finals of the Women’s World Open
Defeating Natalie Grinham during the World Open title in 2006 was said to be “One of the great finals of the Women’s World Open”
7. Best Female Player of the year
She was voted for the second time in a row as the “Best Female Player of The Year” in 2006
8. Six WISPA Player of the year awards in a row
Datuk Nicol David also obtained the WISPA Player of the year award from 2005 to 2010
9. Ten tour titles
Ten tour titles were won by Datuk Nicol in 2008 while retaining her wold number one position during the Women’s World Squash Rankings in December.
10. She won her second Seoul City Open
Datuk Nicol won her second Seoul City Open in 2009 while retaining her World Games women’s singles title.
These are just to name the very few of Datuk Nicol Ann David’s achievements! She made Malaysia proud countless of times and brought home multiple achievements and awards during her 20 years representing Malaysia.
