Whether it’s visiting relatives or going on an overseas trip, nobody likes getting motion sickness.
Some people might have the woozy feeling, and some might not have it at all. Motion sickness usually occurs to oneself when travelling by car, boat, plane, or even train as well! The sensory organs of the body will send mixed messages to your brain, thus causing dizziness, lightheadedness, or nausea.
Some people learn easily in their lives that they are prone to the condition. If you have not master the skill in controlling your feelings, here are 8 tips that may help (or not) on your trip that you need to go for!
1. Don’t eat too much!
Eating a light meal before the flight or trip may help with the tummy pain symptom. Less fatty food and less salty food is recommended. You could eat a couple of snacks, fruits or vegetables before the trip but try not to eat a full stomach meal.
2. Plan for where you are going to sit
If you do have to take an airplane, try asking for a seat preferably in the middle of the aircraft where the rotations are not too bad. On the road, however, fight for a shotgun! Seating on the front passenger seat and looking at the view may lessen the effects of motion sickness.
3. Try not to read
For those bookworms, I know you love to read, but it will only make the symptoms worse so put the book back down, relax and enjoy the view the world has to offer! Yes, this also includes not looking at your phone or e-book.
4. Place your face in front of an air vent
Imagine yourself going through the wind at high speed and feeling the breeze as it hits your face. Breathing in that fresh air and feeling free.
5. Focus on your breathing
Just like meditating, taking deep slow breathes to relax may help with the nausea that has been irritating you. The slow breathing should help ease yourself into sleep for a good relaxing sensation.
6. Talk to yourself?
This may or may not work, it could just work as a placebo effect. Just by telling yourself “I’m not going to get motion sickness” repeatedly could trick your brain into thinking that you’re able to handle.
7. Try to consume ginger!
Mom or dad may have previously told you that ginger is good for you and maybe this could be the right time for it. Widely known to be good for indigestion and motion sickness, sipping on a ginger tea maybe isn’t so bad at all, despite of its taste.
8. Try to medicate
When everything doesn’t work, and you’re really worried about getting sick you could try taking sedative antihistamines, or. If you’re unsure about the drug to take, you may want to contact your local pharmacist about any recommendations. Not the best solution as there are side effects to be worried about.
