On 24 February, the Russian Federation launched a large-scale military operation in Ukraine.
The lives of children and families in communities throughout the country are facing a significant impact.
As we watch the conflict continue to grow on our social media, it’s a natural thought to want to help them in some way. The best and easiest way is to remain informed about the conflict and to avoid spreading misinformation on social media. Another step is to donate money, if you are financially able. Most large international aid organizations like UNICEF and the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) are currently working in Ukraine and neighboring countries, where a growing number of displaced people are fleeing.
According to UNICEF, the past eight years of conflict have inflicted profound and lasting damage to children. Children’s access to safe shelter, water, and schooling are threatened by the conflict. The already weakened health system continues to be severely challenged by the COVID-19 pandemic. Child poverty has increased. Limited freedom of movement continues to curtail access to social benefits and services, civil documentation, and critical winterization needs.
As much as financial help will be beneficial for those that are in need, that compassion must be paired with a serious commitment to fully understanding what’s going on. We all want others to be alright. For the world to be safe and free for our future generations.
