In another shocking incident of compromised hygiene standards at Malaysian eateries, a customer recently exposed a Mamak restaurant in Bandar Botanik, Klang, for washing dishes in a trash bin.
The incident adds to a series of unsettling discoveries in the food industry, including incidents of foreign objects found in meals.
Over the weekend, Elyas Yusri, a concerned netizen, shared videos on Twitter capturing a restaurant staff member washing or dipping plates into a green trash bin located at the back of the eatery. Upon closer inspection, the bins were found filled with dirty water, raising serious concerns about the restaurant’s cleanliness practices.
Expressing his disgust, Elyas confronted the staff members about the unhygienic practice, and the response he received was alarming. According to the staff, the bins were designated for soaking dishes. Elyas urged fellow patrons to exercise caution and report any similar incidents if witnessed again. He also identified the restaurant as Chennai Spice Restaurant.
Netizens echoed their disgust, tagging health authorities such as the Ministry of Health (KKM), Klang Municipal Council (MPK), and the Food Safety and Quality Program, urging them to investigate and take swift action against the restaurant. As of now, neither KKM nor MPK has responded to the viral videos, and Chennai Spice Restaurant has yet to issue a statement.
The incident underscores the importance of maintaining stringent hygiene standards in food establishments to safeguard public health. Customers are encouraged to report such incidents to relevant authorities, ensuring the well-being of the community.
