Scammers. Let’s talk about scammers for a little bit. What do we know about them? Aside from the traditional perception of an email coming to you claiming to be from a disposed Ugandan Prince promising you wealth if you were to just help him get back onto his feet by sending him some money right? Everyone know about that? Yes? Good.
Because recently, after a string of Facebook accounts being hacked and I’m not sure if this is related or not, I’ve been seeing a lot of interestingly peculiar ads made by some dodgy companies on Facebook.
But most interestingly, I’ve come to realized that as people change so does techniques used to scam them. Remember how it used to be an email? Now it’s in the form of a sponsored Facebook ad. And that’s the best part! They all say the same thing, “Elon Musk wants to give ALL Malaysians financial freedom” made by many different “news” companies and news sites who all sponsored the posts.
It wasn’t one post or two, it was many of them. All from different companies promoting the same thing at the same time, almost as though it was a real news story. But they forgot to overlook this key function of internet surfing, using Google. After a quick search in Google revealed that there is no such thing! Never was there such a thing! But here is a fun fact about Elon Musk though, he wants to die on the moon! Yikes!
As for the scam artist/artists? They’re nowhere to be seen. I do urge all my friends and family to be careful about clicking on any suspicious links as it might automatically download stuff you do not want on your computer, such as a Trojan horse or a Keylogger.
If you’re really afraid after reading this, don’t be!
