With many celebrities and public figures who have contracted the Covid-19 virus, it is certainly a wake up call for all of us.
Japanese founder of one of the most well-known fashion labels, Kenzo has just died, due to complications linked to the Covid-19 virus.
Kenzo Takada, aged 81 has died in an American Hospital in Paris after contracting the Covid-19 virus. We all know him as the fashion icon from Japan who was the first Japanese designer to make it big in the exclusive fashion industry in the 1970’s.
Takada not only made a name for himself as a fashion icon but made headlines for creating a brand of perfumes and skin products. Kenzo, known for bright colours, jungle prints, and flowers were iconic to say the least. A style icon that has been seen and appreciated by the masses, to which has created trendy pieces worn by people all over the world.
The Japan born designer moved to Paris in 1964 where his fashion career took flight, with vibrant prints and colours making his brand a global name. Kenzo was then purchased in 1993 by luxury conglomerate LVMH.
After retiring from Kenzo, the creative made his way to pursue other creative pursuits like the luxury homeware and lifestyle brand, K-3.

Kenzo’s Instagram page shared a tribute to Takada which reads,
“It is with immense sadness that Kenzo has learned of the passing of our founder, Kenzo Takada. For half a century, Mr Takada has been an emblematic personality in the fashion industry – always infusing creativity and colour into the world,” the Instagram caption reads.
“Today, his optimism, zest for life and generosity continue to be pillars of our Maison. He will be greatly missed and always remembered.”
The designer also opened up about his love for Paris, and how it has influenced his luxury fashion career in an instagram post in 2019.
“Paris for me, I definitely saw it as the capital of fashion and today there’s still that certain elegance, French elegance, a French way of dressing,”
“A French way of working with fashion definitely influenced me and much later I started to blend other cultures into that specific fashion.
It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to a fashion icon, a creative and a trend setter. Talent is hard to come by and the world witnessed one of the most iconic designers ever lived.
