2016 has indeed been a great year when it comes to all things food. Remember the cheese craze and sudden demand for it to be included into anything edible, including satay and even ROJAK?
YES. Apparently when Malaysians ask for cheese, they really mean business.
But apart from the occasional cringe-worthy food combinations, 2016 really paved the way for some fascinating food discoveries and trends. Scroll down for a #throwback kinda moment that’ll get you salivating all over the keyboard!
1. Salted egg croissant
The beginning of a salted egg craze among hipster cafes and bakeries, it all somewhat started with this humble little croissant from Le Bread Days, which is said to have a crisp exterior while maintaining a fluffy texture inside with generous stuffings of molten salted egg.
2. Boat Noodles
Malaysians are really a weird bunch. They’d turn their noses at a regular bowl of noodle soup, but once it’s portioned into a smaller serving then all of a sudden people are willing queue up for hours just to have a slurp. Boat noodles are the bomb!
Although we have to say we’re really digging the adorable presentation! Look at those cute bowls…
3. Nitrogen Ice Cream
Who doesn’t want to be a dragon? Now you can instantly be one while enjoying the creamy ice-cold textures of a soft serve that allows you to breathe like one too! You can find Nitrogen ice-cream here too 😉
Introducing nitrogen ice-cream, the newest fad in town that uses nitrogen gas to produce a smoky effect that’s proven to be completely harmless as well. Not only it looks super cool to breathe out smoke, we’re simply loving their minimalist packaging as well!
My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard…
Damn right, it’s definitely better than yours! We’re not talking about just any other milkshakes, it’s a monster milkshake that’s piled with all the goodies right up to the brim.
Thank goodness for Garage 51‘s Messed Up Family series – comprising of four different flavours for you to pick and choose, each promising to be as satisfying as having a full meal!
5. Say cheeseeeeeee!
Last but not least…
A special homage to all cheese foodies out there, we’ve definitely seen all kinds of weird cheese delicacies that came out of nowhere and straight into people’s mouths. But these are a proven crowd-pleaser, given the long lines of queue just to get a hold of these desserts.
Warning: Drooling may occur, so proceed with caution!
Ahh, what would Malaysians do without food? That said, we’re definitely looking forward to in 2017, given all the amazing trends and craze we’ve been through this year.
