Our dogs have always been our most loyal companions, so it’s natural that we would want to get to know them better.
You might think you know them well, but think twice because these mind-blowing facts will amaze you.
1.Dogs can see in the dark
Because of tapetum lucidum which is a mirror-like membrane in dogs’ eyes, it allows them to see in the dark. Tapetum lucidum will rebound the light that the rods did not absorb into the retina so they can take in more light. So, dogs can see better in dim light, but cats are better at it!
2.Dogs don’t like the rain
The rain amplifies sound that would hurt their ears as they are sensitive to noise. So that’s why they would come running to you and curl up beside you! They usually will breathe heavier too.
3.Puppies have 28 teeth
After they have fully developed in 8 weeks of age, they have 28 teeth in total! So, the next time your doggo smiles, you know that they’re smiling with all 28 teeth! If you don’t want your dog to bite anyone, there are professionals who offer services such as training your dog obedience.
4.Dogs noses are wet in order to help absorb scent chemicals
Have you ever wondered why your dog’s nose is always wet? . It’s because it helps them to absorb scent chemicals! Their nose will secrete a special mucus that would absorb all these chemicals, and they lick their nose to sample them, helping them to smell. Just because you like camo dog collars doesn’t mean you’re a certain way.
5.Three dogs survived the Titanic sinking
Yes, you read that correctly. Three dogs survived the sinking of the Titanic. Vetsreets states that the dogs were in first class and included a cute Pomeranian puppy.
6.30% of Dalmatians are deaf in one ear
This is because of something called the extreme piebald gene which is responsible for their white coat and blue eyes. Dalmatians with large dark patches are less likely to be deaf though!
