Often times when we’re down, we find it extremely difficult to pick ourselves back up.
Aren’t we always constantly looking for new ways to feel better about ourselves. Sometimes it could even mean sulking in your own room all night long. But that could never be the solution to feeling better about yourself
We all have our better days and of course the days where goes less well. But how do we not be so hard on ourselves? We’ve compiled a list of 5 ways to feel better about yourself.
1) Ask Your Friends What They Appreciate About You
Believe me when I say words are so powerful and can definitely go a long way. Approach friends who you truly trust who knows you better than anyone else and ask them what they appreciate and love most about you. Be sure to jot down all the qualities they mention so you can always pull it out and remember whenever you’re feeling under the weather
2) Ask Yourself Why You’re Mad
Often times we’re so emotionally triggered and get angry at so many things but we don’t actually question ourselves and ask ourselves why are we angry? Ask yourself what still needs to be healed and you’ll start realizing that you would think rationally before you get angry and say something you might regret. If perhaps you get angry when someone asks you “Why are you so skinny”? Work on that and learn to accept your body and you’ll start seeing a difference in your emotional responses.
3) Be Best Friends With Yourself
It might be difficult for many of us to be best friends with ourselves. We see the many bad things that we do, but we hardly ever see the good that we do. As a result, we are constantly saying very unkind things to ourselves. Try changing the way you see it and ask yourself “What if this were a friend coming to me with these thoughts”. You would then immediately notice how hard you are on yourself. You can combat this by choosing one thing you appreciate best about yourself. The more you practice this, the easier it will be to find things to appreciate about yourself.
4) Be Happy With Yourself
Instead of constantly comparing yourself to other people, be sure to always acknowledge that you and that person you are comparing yourself to are two different individuals and start realizing that this path you’re on is the right one. Ask yourself what are some of the advantages of where you are now. Doing this would further build a pathway in your brain. Remember, you have the very power to your own brain.
5) Dress Up
Like Ariana said in her song, “I admit I’m a little messed up, but I can hide it when I’m all dressed up”, dressing up can dictate how you feel from day today. You might have that one clothing in your closet that makes you feel handsome or pretty. Put it on and start your day fresh with a smile!
