Residents and shoppers in Subang Jaya were taken by surprise on Sunday, November 5, as heavy rain since 4 pm led to flash floods, affecting a well-known mall and disrupting transportation services in the area.
Videos and photos circulating on social media captured the dramatic scenes of water inundating various locations, causing concern and inconvenience for the local community.
One of the most severely impacted areas was a popular mall located in Subang Jaya. Videos shared online depicted several inches of water flooding the lower floor of the shopping center, leaving shoppers and mall staff scrambling to deal with the unexpected deluge. The situation turned even more alarming as footage showed the mall’s basement parking submerged in water. Some shoppers reported that they were inside the mall when emergency alarms rang, alerting them to evacuate the premises due to the flooding.
“I was shopping there when all of a sudden the bell rang alerting us to evacuate the mall due to flooding,” one user commented on social media. The abrupt evacuation added to the chaos and confusion as people rushed to exit the mall safely.
The flash floods also disrupted transportation services in the Subang Jaya area, with photos surfacing of water inundating the tracks of the Subang Jaya KTM station. The severity of the flooding at the station was not immediately clear, but it undoubtedly caused delays and inconvenience for commuters.
It was reported that the flash floods were not limited to the mall and train station alone. Flooding incidents were recorded along Jalan Persiaran Subang and in various parts of the USJ area, affecting residents and businesses in those areas as well.
As of the time of reporting, the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department has not received any official reports regarding the flooding, leaving many residents and business owners to manage the situation on their own.
Local authorities and emergency services are expected to assess the damage and provide assistance where needed. This unexpected event serves as a reminder of the importance of being prepared for extreme weather conditions, as climate change continues to bring about more unpredictable and severe weather patterns. Residents and businesses in flood-prone areas are encouraged to take proactive measures to protect themselves and their properties.
