Over the long weekend, Regina George of Singapore, Xiaxue (Wendy Cheng) shook the virtual world yet again with her latest YouTube video featuring fellow YouTuber, Dee Kosh.
The aftermath? 183,000 views as of today with lots of drama ensued since the video went viral.
Since it’s a 22 minutes long video, we have the lowdown on everything you need to know about the video for you inquisitive folks out there.
The video begins with Xiaxue explaining about Social Blade, which is in short, a social media statistic tracker. This site helps people to understand their own social media. While the service is free and accessible to everyone, it comes with a side effect; you can also track other people’s Instagram’s stats (i.e gauge if someone buys fake followers).
Interesting stuff, isn’t it?
So Xiaxue went on and claimed that she has diagnosed herself with InstaCancer (which is hilarious btw), and then she (and Dee Kosh) took the liberty to check and decide (DISCLAIMER: their own opinions, no a fact) if that specific influencer has real or fake followers using the graph and chart from Social Blade.
The rest, is history.
Watch the rest here:
Dramas aside, we think that the mastermind behind Social Blade is a genius! After taking a pinch of salt with our new found wisdom, we spent the entire night looking up on graphs for influencers with fishy looking exponential fluctuation of followers within a short period of time.
This? That’s fishy stuff going on over there.
Brands, marketeers, and followers alike, we owe it to ourselves to seek the truth. Sometimes, it only takes a bad apple to ruin the bunch. A box of bad apple will prolly cost the well-being of the entire ecosystem.
That’s exaggeration, but you get the drift.
Know what you’re getting into. Get educated. One person is all it takes to imprint a permanent image for the group he/she is representing.
As for influencers, make sure your conscience is clear. Own what you’ve done, and if your followers are real, they will love you and accept you nonetheless.
Now, pass the popcorn, will you?
