Drake is back in the news again with a new creative project in the works. Surprisingly, it’s not music-related this time.
He’s going to produce a TV show!
The Canadian rapper is teaming up with HBO to create a new TV show named Euphoria.
Inspired by another series of the same name, the show is said to follow a group of high school students as they navigate life, dealing with things such as love, social media, substance abuse, and sexuality. Since the show is an HBO show, one can expect a pretty unfiltered look at the darker sides of young adulthood.
If this wasn’t enough, it seems that former Disney star Zendaya will be one of the stars of the show. She is famous for playing Rocky Blue on the show, Shake It Up and for her role in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming.
She will be joined by Storm Reid, Maude Apatow, Brian ‘Astro’ Bradley, Eric Dane, Alexa Demie, Jacob Elordi, Barbie Ferreira, Nika King, Hunter Schafer and Sydney Sweeney. All of these are young talents and it looks like the show will be quite diverse in its casting. One can only hope that this translates into unique and interesting storylines for these actors to make the most of.
Though this is Drake’s first time as a producer, it’s definitely not his first time on TV. Most of us are more familiar with Drake the rapper but did you guys know that he used to be an actor on the teen drama series, Degrassi: The Next Generation?
Here’s a clip of Drake on the show. He looks so young!
The show is set to be written by the writer of the Wizard of Lies, another HBO series that was based on a non-fiction book. It starred Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer and received decent reviews.
There is no official release date for the show yet but we can expect more details to arrive soon. In the meantime, we wonder what HBO can bring to what looks to be a teen drama concept.
Would it be like the UK’s famous show, Skins, or would it just end up feeling contrived and overly dark in its delivery? Only time will tell.
For now, we at Sevenpie are left just marveling at how much Drake has managed to accomplish in a single year. With the release and update of his new album Scorpion, and the #InMyFeelings meme it gave birth to, Drake is one name that’s on everybody’s mind for sure.
It really is the year of Drake, isn’t it?
