Acai, which is pronounced as (ah-sigh-EE) berries are known as a Brazilian ‘superfruit’ as they are native to the Amazon region where they are counted as one of the staple foods! It looks similar to the blueberry as they are both deep purple in colour.
In addition, they contain many health benefits when consuming it. However, many Malaysians still don’t really know what their benefits are as they aren’t really popular here.
We’re here to educate you about this.
1. They are filled with antioxidants!
Antioxidants can prevent molecules such as DNA that are needed for cells to function better. Acai berries could reduce this damage and prevent it!
Acai berries have a high number of antioxidants which beat the other berries such as cranberries and blueberries which also contain antioxidants but not as much as the Acai berry.
2. Protects us against heart disease and diabetes
Acai berries are also known for their extremely high anthocyanins and antioxidants that promote overall heart health. It contains cholesterol-like compounds that are found in fruits, vegetables and nuts. They even prevent the absorption of dietary cholesterol by the body.
A study was shown that the acai pulp reduces ‘bad’ LDL cholesterol in mice who had been fed a high cholesterol diet.
3. Anti-Aging Properties
Acai berries have antioxidant properties which would help them fight the free radicals and delay the signs of becoming older! Yes, eating it would reduce the signs of aging.
4. Strengthens your hair
The Acai berry helps us maintain a healthier scalp and strengthens our hair from the roots as it has a lot of nutrients. This could also prevent our hair from falling.
5. Boosts your brain function
As the Acai berry contains a lot of plant compounds, it could protect your brain from damage as you start to age and grow older. The antioxidants protect you from inflammation and oxidation in brain cells. Other than that, it could help you improve your memory even better!
