Last Sunday, June 30th, marked a very important day especially for us living in the digital-whiz generation: World Social Media Day!
If you call yourself a “social media junkie”, then you should not miss out in celebrating this very special occasion! In conjunction of World Social Media Day, here at Sevenpie, we’ve compiled 5 ways how social media has transformed our lives, forever:
1. Everything is Instagram-able
Remember the days where owning one of these seemed like a luxury:
And today, even 1 camera isn’t enough for our smartphones…
With social media, it definitely makes it easier for us to document from the most precious to the silliest moments! Even our lunch is worth a photo these days (#relatable). Nevertheless, social media has let us never miss a moment!
2. Everyone can be friends
We have reached an era where asking: “Can I have your Instagram handle?” becomes the way of making friends! Social media has helped us connect to our long-lost friends or a far-away relative – bringing home closer to us than ever before. One thing’s for sure, our creativity in making funky usernames has never left us…
3. A space to express
Social media has created a platform where voices are heard! Be it for a certain cause that you support or sharing your art/musical talents – everyone has become a storyteller in their own unique way with social media.
And a few things we can learn from social media:
4. Not taking the “glamorous” life too seriously
While social media has helped us to connect with people better, the fear of missing out (FOMO) can become so real especially when we compare our lives with the “highlights” of others! It is important to know that everyone has their own pace in life. And if things get too overwhelming, take a break from social media if you have to!
5. Social media makes us anti-social
With the convenience that social media has brought us, it is easy for us to get engrossed by it. Research actually says that Malaysians spend an average of 5 hours a day on social media! Remember to take a break from your phones once in a while and spend time doing things that matter for yourself and for your loved ones!
