Some of you might have been surprised (and angry) that FINAS wanted to censor Netflix…okay boomer.
Ahmad Idham, the CEO of FINAS reportedly say that Netflix should be censored, as it will “corrupts the minds of children who are developing,” and said that “the contents will give negative effects if they remain unmonitored.”
His statement immediately caused a backlash amongst people, who slammed him as interfering in personal entertainment, and pointed out that there is a parental lock control to ensure children’s content.
Okay boomer…
He later clarified that he was not calling for a ban, rather a collaboration to strengthen context of digital content. He added that FINAS has no authority to censor Netflix.
However, netizens being detectives now begin digging up. And they found that he has ulterior motives for such a ban.
It was discovered that Ahmad Idham launched a streaming content “Aflix”. According to its website, it’s the world’s first “ethical streaming content.”
When users caught wind of it, they criticize it as being unoriginal and slammed the contents of it as “downloaded straight from YouTube.” Users have responded in numerous ways towards the planned launch.
Ni ke Aflix punya content? Macam downloaded straight from YouTube and uploaded into this so-called ethical streaming app. And really, Aflix? The name itself sounds so unoriginal. Bila 1 company comes up with __flix, 10000 companies lain pun nak guna yang sama. pic.twitter.com/oH5YqMNZXy

Ahmad Idham is a cancer to the art community of Malaysia, trying to filter Netflix to make way for his associates, Aflix, obviously Aflix will be full of Rempit movies. A stands for Ass i guess.

Aflix can exist without touching Netflix. Censoring your competitor just to get people to move to your streaming platform? Lepas tu nak blame parents “tak sayang anak-anak” kalau tak agree. Orang tak perlu kot nak subscribe Netflix kalau production korang bukan kualiti jamban.

Despite the negative backlash surrounding it, AFLIX has it’s defenders. It’s CEO, Fadzil Hashim lashed out on Twitter calling out those who criticized the censorship of Netflix.
