Malaysians are nothing if not inventive when it comes to their food. Numerous innovative geniuses have given us awesome food and drinks over the years. From Roti Cheese to Roti Milo, Malaysia is clearly pushing the boundaries of of the culinary field. But with a new durian-based dish, we may have finally gone too far!
Introducing, Durian Goreng Cheese!
The dish is currently being served at a stall in Batang Kali, Selangor, run by one, Nur Emyza Samsuddin. The stall is reportedly near the JRD Development shoplots.
The story goes that this dish was born from a surplus of durian. Someone, somewhere had the bright idea of dipping it into batter and frying it. Considering how many types of fried foods Malaysians are into, this doesn’t surprise us at all.
The story of fried durian wouldn’t make much of an impact by itself, but then Nur Emyza went one step further and added cheese on top. According to the Malay Mail, she tried this because pairing banana or jackfruit fritters with cheese is common and she wanted to try something new.
As shocked as we were to hear about this new type of food, there’s definitely a part of us that’s kind of curious to know what it tastes like. Just how well could durian fritters pair with cheese?
What do you think, dear readers? Has culinary science gone too far? Or is this still not far enough?
Are you interested in trying out this fried treat? Or do you think durians and cheese don’t belong together?
