Did you guys know that Family Mart recently brought Clear Coca Cola to Malaysia? Locals finally get the chance to experience the new beverage that’s been making waves on the Internet.
So what’s special about this clear cola, you ask? Well, for one thing, this new flavour removes the caramel ingredient from the classic formula. In exchange, they added in a splash of lemon. It’s also got zero calories, by the way.
If you thought clear coke was the strangest tweak the Coca Cola Company ever made to our beloved beverage, prepare to have your expectations exceeded and your curiosity piqued.
Here are 5 other novelty Coca Cola flavours from around the world that made us rethink what we thought we knew about Coca Cola.
1. Green Tea Coke

Released in 2009, this flavour was available only in Japan. It combines two beloved drinks, Coca Cola and Green Tea.
So how does it taste? Well, according to this video, one Japanese woman described it to taste like ‘waste water’. Yikes. Maybe some things are better left separate…
2. Orange Coke
Source: Japan Today
This flavour was released in the United States in 2007 and was Coca Cola’s attempt to break into the citrus soft drink market. But unlike Lime Coke or Lemon Coke, this version used orange as the base flavour.
We know what you’re thinking. Isn’t this just Fanta Orange? Apparently not. Despite it not being received terribly, the drink is only available in Russia, Latvia, and Poland now.
3. Coca Cola Coffee Plus
Source: Independent
This version appeared in vending machines across Japan in 2017 and aimed to combine Coca Cola and Coffee. Didn’t they learn anything from Green Tea Coke?
As strange as this combo seems, people seem to really like it. It was also launched in Australia, and Vietnam, among other countries. Coca Cola boasts that this version contains 50% more caffeine, 50% less calories and a 100% guarantee to make you both curious and cautious to try it.
4. Coca Cola Raspberry

This is a short-lived version of Coca Cola that came out in New Zealand back in 2005. It was available for a short time before it disappeared into obscurity for several years.
The flavour made a comeback to New Zealand in 2017 and is currently available in Australia. So if you’re going to make a trip to the Land Down Under, make sure to pick one of these up, for the memories if not for the taste.
5. Coca Cola Ginger
Source: Atlanta Business Chronicles
This version of coke came out in Australia in 2016 and was apparently supposed to combine the ‘warm aromatic notes’ of ginger with the classic flavour of Coca Cola. The intention was to make a refreshing and ‘intriguing’ flavour of soft drink.
We don’t know about you but when someone tells us that a drink tastes ‘intriguing’, we wonder if Harry Potter’s Professor Snape had a hand in creating it. In the end, the flavour turned out to be divisive with some people loving it and some people finding it bland or ‘soulless’.
But what do you think, dear readers?
Would you be willing to try out these novelty Coca Cola brands? And while on the topic, are there any weird flavours of Coca Cola that you think should exist?
